The week ahead
A quiet city
with a loud week.
Burgas in May is a comfortable Black Sea city before the summer season arrives. In 2027 one week in the middle of that month will not be quiet at all, and the difference between an easy visit and a frustrating one is mostly made in the decisions you take months ahead.
What is happening
The contest comes to Bulgaria for the first time.
The European Broadcasting Union has announced that Burgas will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest at Arena Burgas, with the two semi-finals on Tuesday 11 and Thursday 13 May 2027 and the grand final on Saturday 15 May 2027. It is the first time the contest has been held in Bulgaria.
We are not part of that event and we have nothing to do with running it, selling tickets to it, or deciding anything about it. We are describing it here only because it is the reason the city will be busy, and because knowing the shape of the week helps you plan a trip around it. For anything official, go to the organisers.
The shape of the week
Three late nights, and a lot of daytime in between.
Three of the evenings that week are spoken for. Almost everything else is not. For most visitors the majority of the trip is daytime hours in a seaside city, which is exactly the part that tends to go unplanned and then gets spent looking at a phone.
- The evenings decide your baseWhere you sleep matters most in terms of the journey back after a late finish, not the distance on a map at midday.
- The days are the real tripBeaches, food, the Sea Garden, day trips along the coast. This is where a plan is worth having and where a city companion earns its place.
- Arrival and departure are their own problemA busy week concentrates flights and transfers into a few days at both ends. Treat them as separate decisions rather than an afterthought.
If you are not in the arena
Most visitors to a host city never go inside the venue.
Plenty of people travel to a host city without a ticket to anything, and have a better week than they expected. Whether public viewing, a fan zone or any other arrangement will be organised in Burgas is for the organisers and the city to announce, and we will not guess at it here. What we can say is that a trip built around the city rather than the venue is a perfectly good trip, and it is the one we are building for.
What to decide early
The decisions that get harder the longer you leave them.
Nothing on this page is urgent today. But the choices below get more expensive and more constrained the closer the week gets, and they are the ones our practical guides are written to help with.
Burgas Fan is an independent city guide and visitor pass. It is not affiliated with the EBU, BNT or the Eurovision Song Contest, and it does not sell or bundle official event tickets. Event dates above are as announced publicly by the organisers; check official sources before booking around them.
